Saying Farewell to Mark Singleton and Roger Rippy
Published: June 23, 2016
On June 3, Dr. Mark Singleton and Roger Rippy, E-RYT 500, retired from their positions on the Yoga Alliance Board of Directors. We are sad to see Mark and Roger leave the board and are thankful for their contributions to Yoga Alliance.
Mark Singleton earned his Ph.D in Divinity from the University of Cambridge (UK), where he specialized in the history of yoga. Mark provided an expert testimony for the Sedlock v. Baird case to defend yoga in schools where he summarized the development of modern yoga and some of its most influential teachers. Mark was elected to the board on December 1, 2015. While on our board, he provided valuable insights from the international yoga community.
Roger Rippy was elected to our board in August of 2012. He has been instrumental in numerous Yoga Alliance advocacy initiatives, including testifying in front of the Missouri House Emerging Issues Committee in support of legislation that protects Missouri YTTs from unnecessary regulations. He also participated on the Standards Committee to revise and update our standards in a mindful and democratic way. Although Roger will no longer be serving on the Board of Directors, he is the first appointee to the Yoga Alliance Advisory Council. In this role, Roger will continue to lend his expertise on advocacy issues affecting the entire yoga community.
We wish Mark and Roger abundance and prosperity in their future endeavors and appreciate their heartfelt contributions in shaping Yoga Alliance in meaningful ways.
