More Good News for Missouri!
Last Updated: December 9, 2016
As you know, Yoga Alliance has been working hard on your behalf to protect Missouri’s yoga teacher training (“YTTs”) providers from burdensome and expensive regulations imposed by the Missouri Department of Higher Education (“MDHE”). We have some exciting updates about our efforts to ensure that Missouri’s YTTs can operate without unnecessary regulation!
We are pleased to announce that yesterday Senator Bob Dixon – with Yoga Alliance’s strong support – filed SB 941, a bill in the Missouri Senate that would exempt YTTs from MDHE’s regulations that are intended for occupational or vocational schools, but are currently being applied to some YTTs in the state. This bill serves as companion legislation to HB 1681, a bill filed in the Missouri House of Representatives by Representative Elijah Haahr several weeks ago. Yoga Alliance offers a big thank you to Sen. Dixon and Rep. Haahr on their tremendous efforts to protect Missouri’s YTTs!
Our bills are garnering support in the Missouri legislature, and a hearing has been scheduled in the House Emerging Issues Committee – chaired by Rep. Haahr – next week. Yoga Alliance and Missouri yogis will attend to make sure our elected representatives understand how important this legislation is to our community.
As our efforts continue, we will need your help! Over the coming weeks, we will likely call upon you to contact lawmakers and share your experiences as the bills work their way through the legislative process. We hope you’ll join us in this important mission. In the coming weeks:
- Watch for updates from us. We'll keep you informed of the status of the bills and let you know how you can best support this effort.
- Share your story. We want to hear from you! If you have have been impacted by the MDHE’s regulations, want to get involved, or have any questions, please contact us by email at yaadvocacy@yogaalliance.org.
