Moving On Up in the Illinois Senate!
February 17, 2016
Great news for Illinois yogis—we have made headway in your state two weeks in a row!
As you may know, Yoga Alliance® has heard from members of the Illinois yoga community that the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) has notified them that their YTTs must submit to onerous requirements that otherwise would only apply to vocational schools. We have been working on your behalf to protect the rights of Illinois YTTs to operate without such unnecessary intrusion.
We are pleased to announce that Senator Don Harmon introduced SB 2743 yesterday, a bill in the Illinois Senate that would prevent state regulators from imposing burdensome regulations on YTT programs. Rep. Dan Burke introduced similar legislation last week in the Illinois General Assembly. We are pleased that both chambers of the Illinois legislature are now considering legislation to prevent the IBHE from imposing burdensome requirements and expensive fees on YTTs.
We are making great progress in the Land of Lincoln and look forward to reporting more good news! We thank Sen. Harmon and Rep. Burke for their efforts to support the Illinois yoga community.
Over the coming weeks, we will keep you apprised of the status of both Rep. Burke and Sen. Harmon’s bills. We hope we can count on you to make your voices heard in support of these bills when the time is right.
