Another Opportunity to Help Get Yoga Back in Schools

Last Updated: April 26, 2021

Dear Alabama Yoga Alliance Community,

We are writing with another update on Alabama HB 246, the bill that would reverse a 28-year ban and allow yoga instruction to be shared with public school students as an elective activity.

While the bill passed with overwhelming support in the State House of Representatives (73–25) the bill is now pending in the Senate. It is our understanding that the bill is being held up in the Senate Rules Committee.

With only two weeks left in the Alabama legislative session, Senate Rules Committee Chairman Jabo Waggoner needs to hear from you. We are confident that the voice of yoga professionals in the Alabama community can encourage Senator Waggoner to allow the Senate to vote on the bill as a full body.

We have created an automated email that you can customize and send directly to Senator Waggoner to voice your support for advancing the bill to the Senate floor. You can access the email tool here.

Additionally, please ask your fellow Alabamians—friends, family, and fellow yoga practitioners—to send an email or letter to Senator Waggoner using the link as well.

It is always our goal to support you and accessibility to the practice we know is beneficial to all. We will keep you updated on our efforts and thank you for all you do for your community. If you have any questions, further input, or information regarding this issue, please share it with us at yaadvocacy@yogaalliance.org.
